ALERT: Cell phone spam
February 3rd, 2010
We have received several calls complaining about spam text messages being sent to cell phones by our company. These text messages typically are related to refinancing your mortgage to take advantage of a lower rate. Here is an example of a typical message: Homeowners, if you have good credit and equity, now is the time to refinance at 4% fixed. Text back "YES" for a free quote, or STOP to unsubscribe. mtginfo.com
Please be aware that we are not sending these text messages and there is nothing we can do to prevent them. The messages are coming from a variety of numbers, none of which MIS owns. The only identifying information about MIS is our domain ("mtginfo.com") appended to the end of the message, which people are using to find our phone number.
You may wish to contact your cell phone provider to file a complaint against the phone number the text message came from. This should get any texting charges dropped, and hopefully will get the sender in trouble after enough complaints are made against the number.
Additionally you can visit the National Do Not Call Registry at https://www.donotcall.gov/. You can add your cell phone number to the registry and this may help prevent the spam after a period of time.
